Names of Cairngorm Blizzard Casualties Revealed
THURSDAY, 23 NOVEMBER 2006
The names of the two ice climbers who were killed after a blizzard hit them in the Cairngorm Mountains have been revealed.
They were Richard Hardy, 18, from Hampshire and Graham Cooper, 23, from Aberdeen. Both were part of the Aberdeen University Climbing Club who went for a climbing trip to the Cairngorms.
The ice climbers were taken to the Raigmore hospital but they died shortly after. John Allen, Cairngorm Mountain Rescue team leader, said that the two seemed to have escaped an avalanche. "The men did very well to get where they were found, but were probably in a very poor condition by then. They would have been exhausted," Allen added.
