Sean Burch Climbs 36 Tibetan Peaks in 23 Days
FRIDAY, 8 DECEMBER 2006
Sean Burch, an American world record holder and fitness expert, has climbed a total of 63 unexplored, high-altitude Tibetan peaks in the Chang Tang region in 23 days.
The Tibetan peaks ranged from 16,000 - 19,000 feet, netting over 100,000 feet. Burch spent an average 16 hours a day climbing for 23 days. He documented his climbs with GPS and photographs, plus research from interviews with local Tibetans whom we have spent time with.
Burch has set world records climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Everest, and the North Pole. "The attraction of reaching the summit of an unclimbed peak is comparable to Neil Armstrong stepping on the moon. No one has ever been there before. This is true 21st century exploration," Burch said.
