Ice Climber Dies in Colorado Springs

WEDNESDAY, 31 JANUARY 2007

Thirty-two-year old Reid Hunt has died after falling 170 feet at a popular ice climbing spot near Colorado Springs last January 28.

Hunt was standing over the edge of an ice wall and preparing to rappel down when he slipped, according to Steve Perry, public information officer for El Paso County Search and Rescue. Hunt was not secured and was not wearing any protection, even a crampon.

A CPR was performed on hunt by other climbers until Search and Rescue crews arrived. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Hunt was a deaf supervisor at the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind in Colorado Springs.
