Franz Josef Glacier Opens Next Month
THURSDAY, 22 FEBRUARY 2007
The Franz Josef Glacier Centre, the $6.5 million indoor ice climbing attraction in New Zealand, is set to open on March 1.
Featuring a 10-metre-high wall, up to 20 climbers can scale simultaneously in a "supervised environment" in the centre. Audio-visual displays, which include virtual rainforest, ice caves, and crevasses, are also a part of the center’s features. These will give a one-of-a-kind glacier experience to the climbers.
Jamie Smith, founder of the world's largest indoor ice wall - the Ice Wall found in Kinlochleven, Scotland, has helped in building the 10-meter ice climbing wall.
