Duo Climbs Mt. Huntington through Nettle-Quirk
WEDNESDAY, 21 MARCH 2007
Two climbers have scaled Mt. Huntington in the Alaska Range, probably the first ascent this winter, through the West Face Couloir or the Nettle-Quirk route.
Jed Brown and Colin Haley flew to the Tokositna Glacier, which is located below the mountain's peak, on March 10. They moved out of the camp after two days and climbed the summit. Afterwards, both climbers rappelled on their return route.
Both climbers suffered frostnips but generally, they reported excellent climbing conditions. The climbers also decided to go to Valdez to climb waterfalls. They flew out on March 16. Last year, they made the first ascent of Mt. Moffit in the Hayes Range of Alaska in its North Face.
