Climber Dies after Falling 1,000 feet in Mount Wak

WEDNESDAY, 25 APRIL 2007

A climber, who has not been identified, has died last Monday after falling down Mount Wake in Denali National Park and Preserve.

Maureen McLaughlin, park spokeswoman, said that the climber is not from Alaska. The climber's spouse, who is out of the country, has not been contacted yet. The climber fell down 1,000 feet while rappelling on Mount Wake around 6 PM with a partner, who was below him and out of sight. The reason of the accident is still unknown to park authorities.

After going to the climber and having confirmed the death, the partner has asked for help from another climbing group, and called the authorities. The body was recovered early Tuesday morning.
