Everest Climber to Bury Sleeping Beauty

Ian Woodall, 50, is a veteran climber of Mount Everest. This week, Woodall is back again at the base camp of Mount Everest to prepare climbing 28,000 feet up and give Fran Arsentiev - the Sleeping Beauty - and other climbers a burial.

Arsentiev was 40 when she died in 1998. The wife of the Russian climber Sergei Arsentiev, Fran was last seen by Woodall and his wife, Cathy, during her last hour. The couple stayed with her, sacrificing their chance to reach the summit only a thousand feet above them. But fearing for their safety, they left her up the mountain. Arsentiev’s husband is also said to have been died although it is not known where his body is.

Woodall is back in Mount Everest to show that there is humanity in climbing. His expedition will start, possibly, next week. He will also bury the bodies of David Sharp, a climber who died in spring last year, and of an unnamed Indian climber who died in 1996 with eight other people.
