Mount Shasta Climb for Breast Cancer Fund
FRIDAY, 25 MAY 2007
Forty women will climb Mount Shasta in California to raise money for breast cancer research on July 10 and 11.
Twenty climbers come from the Bay Area while the rest comes all the way from Hawaii, Washington D.C., and Hungary. Called Climb Against the Odds, the event is sponsored by the Breast Cancer Fund, which aims to identify and eliminate the causes of the disease.
Included in this group of determined women is Alice Dunning, a radiation therapist from San Rafael, A supporter of breast cancer research for such a long time, she is now taking it "to the next level". "They all have a story," Dunning says about the 39 other women in the climb. The group will plant Buddhist-type prayer flags when they reach the top of Mount Shasta. Each flag has a name of an honoree. Dunning will dedicate her climb to a colleague, who has survived breast cancer.
