TUESDAY, 24 JULY 2007
Italian climbers Karl Unterkircher and Daniele Bernasconi have successfully reached the top of Gasherbrum II through its North face.
The climbers reached the summit last July 20 via the north face, setting a historic record. Michele Compagnoni, the third member of the climbing expedition was left 150 meter below the summit, but shares the same happiness with the other climbers.
Only few climbers dare to attempt reaching the summit through the north face, which is beset by countless difficulties. The north face was first identified by explorer Kurt Diemberger.
