Record-Breaking Climber Goes to Arctic Circle
TUESDAY, 31 JULY 2007
Rhys Jones, a 21-year-old record-breaking mountaineer, has set off to another adventure. Jones, who is part of a three-man team, will be climbing the three highest peaks in the Arctic Circle.
Jones, together with his climbing companions, is now in Reykjavik, Iceland, and they will first complete a 120-mile trek for the first phase of the expedition. The team will be summiting the highest peak first, which is the 3,693-meter Gunnbjorn Fjeld.
Next are the Qaqqaq Kershaw and the Qaqqaq Johnson, which measure 3,693 and 3,669 meters respectively. Jones was the youngest person to climb all the seven summits last year. He reached the top of Mount Everest on his 20th birthday.
