Sandstrom Brothers Climb Peru to Help Save Lives
FRIDAY, 27 JULY 2007
The Sandstrom brothers are climbing again this year to save lives. They will try to scale the highest mountains in Peru to raise money for kidney disease.
Rep. Stephen Sandstrom and his brother Nord will climb Huascaran Sur, a mountain that towers above the clouds at 22, 132 feet and raise $12,000 for kidney programs. Both brothers expect to spend at least five days at the mountain. They will also spend time training in the Peruvian mountain to acclimatize themselves to the high altitudes. According to Sandstrom it will be an honor to help raise funds for kidney disease awareness and prevention while putting my body through an ultimate adventure challenge.
In 2006, the pair climbed to the summit of three peaks in Ecuador and raised $8,000 for the non-profit group Kidney TRUST's education and prevention programs. "The TRUST applause Nord and Stephen's heroic efforts as they scale the highest peak in Peru. The funds raised will help the TRUST deliver effective testing and assistance programs for people living with chronic kidney disease," said Barbara Lawson, president of the TRUST.
Sandstrom brothers will be paying the costs of their trip which includes the flights and gear. The money that will be raise in the climb will go to the people that needs dialysis but can't afford to pay for it.
