Alps Face Adverse Effects of Rise in Temperature
WEDNESDAY, 29 AUGUST 2007
The rise of temperature around the world is setting high risks for the Alps. These do not only cover environmental aspects, but also those that affect the life of citizens residing in or around it.
Climbing guides like Johann Kaufmann, for example, experience changes around them such as loose rocks, which discourage and disable climbers to trek Eiger, one of the famous mountains located in Switzerland.
"It's not that dangerous like you hear sometimes," he says. "We can live with it but it's changing, that's a fact." Kaufmann now works half of the time "cleaning" slopes or pulling down loose rocks, which can crash onto the streets or trails and endanger the lives of people.
