Vicar and Sons Reach Mount Kilimanjaro's Summit

THURSDAY, 30 AUGUST 2007

Canon Chris Lilley, Rural Dean and Vicar of Scawby, Hibaldstow and Redbourne, has reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro together with his four sons: Tom, Steve, Matthew, and Ben.

During the spring, Canon Lilley and his sons took practice walks. Canon Lilley's family was with four guides and 12 porters during the climb. On their way up, they met an Englishman on his way down, who discouraged them from climbing the mountain. They did not take the Englishman's advice, and proceeded on their way up.

"It was a wonderful feeling to have made it and I felt very proud of our family. It had been a special time for us. Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is an experience we will never forgot," Cannon Lilley said.
