Tourism Experts Protest Against Commercial
MONDAY, 24 SEPTEMBER 2007
Tourism experts and outdoor enthusiasts are protesting against a tourism commercial that promotes Scotland as a winter sports destination.
According to reports, the tourism commercial shows winter sports enthusiasts doing snowboarding, skiing, and ice climbing in Scotland's snow-capped mountains. The footages used were taken during the 1990s. Scotland has not experienced cold winters in seven years. Critics of the Scottish tourism commercial explain that people will have false impressions about the winter sports in Scotland.
"You can still go ice-climbing in Scotland, but it won't be of the quality that was shown in the video," Alan Cricton, a professional mountaineer and guide, said. "We haven't had conditions like that for a while now, with the last decent winter being in 2001." Another winter sports enthusiast said, "It was painfully obvious that the footage of the ice climbing was around a decade old because there hasn't been that much ice in Scotland for a long time."
