Scottish Team Makes the Ascent at Gousseault Route
MONDAY, 29 OCTOBER 2007
Guy Robertson and Pete Benson of the Scottish Team made the ascent at the thirty-eight pitch Gousseault route on the north face of the Grandes Jorasses.
With the Gousseault route's only six successful ascents, Robertson and Benson decided to climb after a five-day forecast of clear weather. They worked up to find three adequate, lie-down bevy mass spots despite the route's reputation of lack of edges. They both worked up the route.
Deceased mountaineer Rene Desmaison was the first one who attempted the line with Serge Gousseault in 1971. The attempt ended at Gousseault's death and Desmaison's rescue. Desmaison returned with Giorgio Bertone and Michel Claret to finish the climb at a grade of VI 6a A1/A2, 1200m in 1973.
