THURSDAY, 27 DECEMBER 2007
The Omega Foundation team survived a storm and established a new 1200-meter mixed route on Mt. Vinson, Antartica's tallest peak at 4892 meters.
An all-female team established the first route on Mt. Vinson. Maria Paz “Pachi” Ibarra from Chile and Jarmila Tyrril from Slovakia climbed the new route last December 20. They climbed the northern end of Vinson's west face. Tyrril's ascent was the first ascent by a Slovakian woman. They began the line at 7 p.m. and reached the main summit at 5 a.m.
The team moved their equipment toward Mt. Epperly which is their next stop.
