Anthamaten, Muller Win at Ice Climbing World Cup
WEDNESDAY, 23 JANUARY 2008
Swiss Simon Anthamaten and Petra Müller won the first stage of the Ice Climbing World Cup 2008 in Valle di Daone.
World champion Jenny Lavarda from Italy and 2007 winner Markus Bendler from Austria placed second.
Securing him on the Ice Master victory, Anthamaten was the only athlete to have been able to reach the penultimate hold on the route. On the other hand, Bendler's advantage earned on the first route was not recognized after both Italian Herbert Klammer from Italy and Swiss Andreas Steindl equaled Bendler's performance.
Meanwhile, the battle between Lavarda and Müller was a close fight. The second and final route was the decisive match for the two.
