Climbers Now have Access to Skaha Bluffs
TUESDAY, 29 JANUARY 2008
The Climbers' Access Society of British Columbia purchased a 750-acre property, southeast of the Skaha Bluffs. This will provide a permanent public parking and access to the climbing area.
Before, one needed to cross private land or to illegally park to access Skaha. Climbers used to park at Braesyde Farm, which is owned by Hugh Dunlop, until November 4, 2007 when he tried to sell his land.
The sublot 18 was bought at $5.25 million. This is a fifteen-year effort of climbers to get permanent access to Skaha Bluffs. The Land Conservancy of B.C. (TLC), Mountain Equipment Co-op and the Canadian Government were the driving forces in the deal.
The Skaha Bluffs, a series of coarse-grained gneiss cliffs, have 900 routes.
