Mug Stump Awardees Announced at Ouray Ice Festival

SUNDAY, 20 JANUARY 2008

The 2008 Mug Stump award winners were announced at the Ouray Ice Festival.

The 2008 winners include the climbers who onsighted the 800- to 1,000-meter ice and mixed lines on the north walls of the Coastal Range of southeast Alaska, those who climbed the 3,000-meter Southeast Rib of Canada’s highest peak, climbers who made the alpine-style first ascent of the Central Spur, as well as those who made the first ascent of the 5,800-meter Tibetan rock peak via the continuously steep East Ridge.

The Black Diamond Equipment, Climbing Magazine, Mountain Gear, Patagonia, PrimaLoft, and W.L. Gore, sponsored the awards that were created in 1992 to remember Mugs Stump, one of the most visionary climbers of North America.

Mug Stump grants winners $30,000.
