Climbers Establish Six Ice Lines in Norway
THURSDAY, 21 FEBRUARY 2008
Guy Lacelle, Audrey Gariepy, and Mathieu Audibert went to Norway and established six ice lines which are at least 250 meters long.
None of the three had climbed in Norway before. The team started their trip at an ice and mixed crag outside of Gol. Then they took a day trip to Hemsedal where Lacelle free soloed the ultra-classic Hydnefossen. After that, they went to Eidfjord and established five back-to-back lines on the wall of a windy mountain.
On February 12, they tried a new route in the Hjolmo Valley near Ovre Eidfjord. They soloed the first two pitches of WI3 then tackled the headwall. They named the route Thermalphobia.
Guy Lacelle, Audrey Gariepy, and Mathieu Audibert are some of the world's best ice climbers.
