Shane Ohly Sets New Ramsay's Round Record
TUESDAY, 26 FEBRUARY 2008
Climber, fell runner and adventure racer Shane Ohly finished the Ramsay's Round in 29:59:34, breaking the 33:48:00 record set by Gary Tompsett.
Ohly’s attempt was mostly 'on-sight' as his earlier efforts were hindered by poor weather. He traveled clockwise and took on Ben Nevis and the Aonachs first.
The Ramsay's Round - The Classic Scottish 24-hour Challenge is considered as the Scottish equivalent of the Bob Graham Round. It is 62 miles long with around 30,000 feet of ascent and descent. It starts from Glen Nevis Youth Hostel, taking in the Mamores, The Grey Corries, The Aonachs, and finally Ben Nevis. This anticlockwise route was first completed by Charlie Ramsay in July 1978.
